Hi my name is Mark a.k.a. "Crash" and i am from Akron, Ohio. I own a 2003 Cobra and a 1989 LX 302. The reason i joined was to gather some information on the "scene" in N.C. I may be moving in 8 months to the state and wanted to get some information on cost of living ect, emissions checking on vehicles, good or bad places to relocate to ect. I will be renting so any information would be helpful. I love cruising, going to the track and also car shows. Thanks guys/gals

Our club is centered around the triangle area of Raleigh/Durham. This is a very nice place to live and housing would not be a problem for you to find. Cost of living is great for housing, especially if you were to eventually buy something. I've found food prices to be average at best. Gas prices are near the average for the country, maybe a touch on the low side. There are two drag strips in 1.5 hr driving distance from the triangle - Fayetteville and Rockingham. Emissions testing varies by county - the triangle has OBDII emissions testing on 96 and up cars. Earlier cars just get visual emissions eqpt. checks. Good luck with the move - keep us in mind.

I have lived in several other states. This is by far the best place I have lived. It also helps to be involved with a great group of people.

Guess I am one of the two who can answer this question, I've been in LE for 7 years before retiring:rockon: lol, car accident on duty long story, but I was also an instructor for the Academy, any questions I dont answer here, you can pm me. The Basic Law Enforcement Class (BLET) is the class you will need to get certified in the State of NC, However, if you still hold your certification it may be transferable to an extent, ALSO some cities such as Raleigh require you to attend their own personal academy. Here how it works if you get hired by Raleigh you will attend their Academy which at the same time will certify you and you'll be sworn in as a Raleigh PD, but if you take the route I took I went to a Community College after the USMC, and entered into their BLET Program 8 weeks later after a state exam I was certified, i then sent out applications all over the state and was finally hired in Goldsboro, NC after working UC in Raleigh, if you get certified like I did and want to work in Raleigh or any other city that has their own Academy you will have to attend the Raleigh Academy and do it all over. I was a physical fitness specialized Instructor and taught at Wayne Community College. Also the Universities have their own Police, such as Chapel Hill UNC Police, etc., some of the major crime cities IMO, Durham, want something to do, go to Durham, I worked UC in a highschool in Raleigh, the Raleigh PD is a nice department but alot of politics involved, guys I worked with there are cool and look out for you. Then you have your sherriffs office Wake County which surrounds Raleigh City, is pretty large one of the biggest counties, if your interested in SHP Highway Patrol NCSHP also has their own Academy, shave your head and stand at attention those guys are pretty hardcore. Then there are the small cities such as Goldsboro, Kingston, I think I was making 21 grand in a year 14.something an hour after 5 years, pay sucked, but in these small cities all it is for is the experiance, the average lenth of employment was 5 years then people took their experiance and moved to a larger city, but dont let the lil cities fool ya, Goldsboro had it's share of drugs, projects, and my favorite footchases!!! But you already have experiance the lil cities would take you in a minute, as anywhere experiance will get your foot in the door.
BLET certification program, the PT part isn't to bad 1.5mile run in less then 14mins., but I've taken students out of shape and got them to pass, you also have to run an obstacle coarse, you jump out of a car, run a distance back to the car drag the pasenger out and drag him to a ste of stairs which you run up and down3 times, run through a weighted door, get down do 20 push ups/20situps run to a tunnel with flashlight in hand crawl through, get out 20&20, run the same short distance and back and the time stops, I cant remember what time you have to get it in to graduate, but that's somewhat the obstacle coarse.
Then you have other classes, I assisted in teaching, Blding searches, domestic, traffic stops, etc. But your familiar with all that same basic laws, different statutes, cities vary with using 10 codes most are the same in the county you work, so you can communicate with HP/SO./PD
Anyway, I hope this helps you out, if you have any questions let me know, another guy here Jnatle works for another dept. here in Raleigh, the Capital Police, he might have something to add I may have forgotten

Hey, Crash. Looks like LoudEnuf laid it out pretty well for you.
All I'll say is you're going to love the weather and the roads down here after living in the Buckeye!
Do a search on Washington NC. We're going through a rebirth around here.
We have the Pamlico River - a revived downtown scene and low crime/taxes.
Y'all come - you hear?

I appreciate the welcome from everyone. Depending on where i can get into an academy for the Basic Law Enforcement Class (BLET), that will determine where i relocate to.
As far as my rides.
I have a Silver 2003 Cobra. Mods include a SLP Loudmouth exhaust and KN filter. On the dyno it put down 440HP and 426TQ. I will be getting a SCT tune soon.
My other ride is a blue with black stripes 1989 5.0 LX hatchback with sunroof. It has a rebuilt 302, ported GT40 heads, B Cam, Crane RR, Trick Flow Track heat intake, 24lb injectors, Aeromotive fuel press regulator, main support girdle, aarp studs, poly motormounts, 3.73 gears, Auburn center section, 15x3.5 front and 15x8 weld draglites on the rear, and SCT dyno tune chip by AkronHorsepower. On the dyno it put down 286HP 308TQ
FUTURE MODS include Tremec TKO 600, Alum flywheel, alum driveshaft, ram clutch, upper/lower control arms, and maybe a procharger P1-SC or 125 shot of NOS.
I will try to get some pics up for you guys. Thanks again for the welcome.
