It won't happen, not with the Mustang nameplate anyway. It'll be called a Falcon, or Galaxie, or something with an F. If it shares some of the platform and performance characteristics of the 'stang, that would be COOOL, but sharing the name would be a disaster.

We need to start a letter (email) writing campaign now to get Ford to re-think this idea. The same thing happened in the mid-eighties when the Probe was going to be the "new" Mustang. I know the MCA and other Mustang enthusiasts bombarded Ford with letters showing their displeasure with the direction they were taking the Mustang.
Does anyone have an idea where to start?
I remember my father telling me about seeing the new pre-production Mustang they had on display at the Ford plant that he worked at, it turned out to be a freaking Probe with Mustang logo’s on it!

I like the idea of a Falcon wagon sharing a lot of the same parts .... should help keep costs down.

I posted that similar article about 3 months ago, glad to see someone else saw it too. I think it looks too much like that Dodge Charger thingy, very ugly. LEAVE MY MUSTANG ALONE FORD! Bring back a newer Windstar or something.

Hey! The Magnum is sweet!! And it's not made on a performance car:D (sorry Noah)
Carl, I've seen online where they have Online petitions you can make up, Then if you devise one up, you can post a link on all the Mustang Websites god knows there are a lot of them, and inform as many Mustang Enthusiast, Car Clubs Nationwide about this insane idea. and try and get all the members to sign it and then find a source to Ford and have them review, hopefully the countless of hundreds of people against developing this car.

Now, if its gonna be a replacement, then its gonna keep its name most likely. and this is definitely a great way of bringing back the great Falcon name also. the Falcon WAS what gave birth to the Mustang in the first place.
ford built the 83-86 ltd on the fox platform (shared by the mustang). that said, only the ltd lx was produced with the HO 5.0, of which there are only around 3200. the good part is you can buy any old fox ltd, and a 5.0 along with a lot of other mustang parts will fit.

but Is the Ford Mustang franchise poised for a explosion of new models? That's what Auto Week's reporting, and the four-door concept attached may be leading the charge. According to AW, a secret meeting on the Mustang's future that took place last year included plans for both sedan and wagon offshoots of the new-retro coupe when the next generation appears in 2011. The thinking is that the Mustang name holds more cachet than Ford's own brand, globally, and thus would be a properly calculated risk for worldwide expansion. And like GM, which is tapping its Australian Holden division for development of its new generation of beefier rear-drive models, like the Camaro and potental new Grand Prix, so to is Ford reportedly looking down under -- to the land of the V8 Supercar racing series -- for inspiration. We say go for it; and while you're at it, why stop at the wagon?
Ford says no way on Mustang Sedan!
