I am interested in making a corner carving machine. I don't need the best in the world, but I want it really good. Is the Cobra a good place to start and what should be done to achieve this.

I am thinking of the Maximum Motorsports GB-3 (Maximum Grip Box for a 1994-1995 Hardtop) but getting it a few pieces at a time.

I am interested in hearing:

Is the Cobra a decent platform to start with?

Is that a good package?

What if anything would you do different?

Kevin, we have spoken a lot in IMs about this, but I still would like your input again.

The 99 on up is a good platform to start with. But you are asking about your Cobra. Griggs has a great package. You'll spend a pretty penny on it, but you'll get what you pay for.

If you are looking to replace your stock suspension system then having a Cobra or GT just won't matter. Only difference will be engine. The big difference is if you had gotten a 99+ Cobra due to the IRS and 4V motor.

MM makes great stuff. I'm not going to knock them as I used their subs on the GT and noticed a big difference. I'll also be getting them for the Cobra in the near future. I love their strut tower brace as well and will be looking into that as well. But Griggs makes a corner carving system for that body and if that is what you want, then that is where I would go.

+1
Chuck you know I've been doing lots of research on stang suspension lately. I like all the MM parts and steeda parts. I like their prices the best too. But like what Wayne said Griggs is a little high on price but they have got some really nice setups. I was looking at the Griggs website today and thinking about doing the rear suspension now and front a little later because of the price. Good luck and if you find some interesting ideas or great deals please post them up.

Well Chuck, here’s my buck and a quarter…..

I think you’ll find that if you install a good set of subframs, strut tower brace, K-member brace, shock tower brace, all new poly bushings, bump-steer kit, springs/struts/shocks, upgrade the rotors/pads will cost you the fraction of the Griggs setup. You’ll find the Cobra will feel like a new car if not better, you could always upgrade from there…. Unless you plan on doing a couple of driving school/events a year, disregard my suggestion and go for the best money can buy….Griggs.

I was amazed on how well the V6’re handled VIR this time around, I drove the notch the last two years. Since the last time I have the V6 on the track, I upgraded the front brakes (’03 Cobra’s), front struts (Saleen RaceCraft), STB and ’98 Cobra sway bars F&B. Still need to install subs…..

I really wish I could have taken the notch, I installed new sway-bar bushings, tie-rod ends and rack bushings (plus a good alignment) over Thanksgiving weekend, man what a difference. But the car was running so so bad there was no way I could have taken it to VIR.

I did not add that I already have the Kenny Brown Extreme Matrix setup that David has ( I got mine first, he just got his installed first ). I also have it on good authority that a MM STB and K-Member brace are on the way since I have been so good this year.

I guess I'll throw my thoughts in on this since I've had both an IRS'ed 2001 Cobra and 94-95 Cobra.
I would venture that my 94 could easily out handle my '01 that had eibach pro-kit springs, 03 cobra bilstein's, and an '03 cobra IRS brace. My '94 currently has the eibach pro-kit springs, tokico HP blue shocks, steeda lower control arms and MM subframe connectors. This comparision is with same exact wheels and tires to make the suspension comparison as close as possible to "apples to apples".
Both MM and Griggs make great products, I don't think you could go wrong either way.
