I am debating between the X-pipe and H- pipe system sytem for my car, which will benefit better sound and hp?

Joe

check out this website for some sound clips of various combos.
http://www.mustangexhaust.com/

From what I've read, HP gains between H & X are not relevant. The gains come from a high flow midpipe.

As far as sound, listen to other's cars and find out what combo you like the best.

Rule of thumb
chambered mufflers = hpipe/prochamber
non chambered = xpipe

I hope I helped a little.

I've also thought the the X-pipe is a bit raspy... while the H has a bit warmer sound.. of course it has a lot to do with whats behind it as well.
IMHO.... also I havn't heard that may combo for the 05's and above yet either.

I prefer the sound of an H pipe or prochamber.

+1 for the ProChamber....:burn:

+2 for the prochamber.

The best thing to do is find as many different setups so you can hear them in person. The hp/tq difference is so small between the h/x/prochamber that it all comes down to what you want the car to sound like. What you think sounds good, other people might not agree with, so get what you like and enjoy.

Hey, this might be a good project for someone (Noah hint, hint)..... Collect sound clips from member’s cars and create a library, which would have the year of the car, what type of exhaust set up along with the file….

Thoughts?

Well..... we could use the video service, http://hcmcstangs.vidiac.com/, and just start an exhaust folder. Any thoughts from anyone else?

I like the idea of sound clips!! It's how I decided on my SLPs...great idea, plus it's always nice to hear the sound of all the muscle in the club, even the obnoxiously loud ones :)

Yep, I'm glad my mind is set, for a while at least. :)

That is something we can put together for next year. What we'll need is a list of what people have and take some sound clips at events. Events like the one coming up in March. Our dyno day would be a great time to get some of those clips.

Let me know if you need the sound of the rip roaring 95 V6 with stock muffler thats has 168k on it! I'm your man for that one!

From what I've read, the '05 and up cars have a much less restrictive exhaust system than the earlier generations, so hp gains are small with any system. Still can't beat the sound of any aftermarket exhaust on a Mustang though.

Yeah, I can tell right away between people with the factory exhaust, and then an aftermarket one.:mustang:

I replaced Rubys (01 cobra), factory 2 1/4" X-Pipes with an 2 1/2" H-Pipe from magnaflow. (I keep the factory mufflers and headers for now)
I noticed a big differance in tone and volume of the exhaust.
The X-pipe was a bit sharp, sort of a "Tenior", while the H-pipe is a softer tone with more bass and a lot louder.
I did notice a boost in my HP however the upgrade from X to H also included and increace of pipe diamiter and high performance catalytic converters.

The sound chip is a good idea, count me in, hopfuly by out next dyno I'll have some Cat-Backs installed to go with my H-Pipes.

I had dual side exhaust on my 95 3.8L. I had the spintech catback system, with an off road H-pipe. I loved the sound of it, only draw back i had was the pipes exiting hung low, and sraped just about everything.

yeah i heard the spintechs on youtube.com but i wanted glasspacks so i got em...get my exhaust guy to custom build me a setup that will not have a u bend and that will run straight to the side...that way it wont scrape so bad either

:burn: In all reallity...anything over stock is good, some folks like it LOUD, right George, and some of us like to hear our music...it's all about what you like and thats what its all about. I like the looks of the side exhaust, and I think like most exhausts you can get different tones depending on whats under the frame. After market Exhausts rule!

I'm also partial to the h or prochamber with a chambered muffler. Mustangs really sound good with an aftermarket cat back or full exhaust system. I've heard many a people say, "You just can't beat the sound of a small block Ford."

Anywho
