So I asked Santa for an iPod nano for christmas. I also got a satellite radio/MP3 receiver for my car back on father's day. Couple that with my general distaste for local radio:puke: and that **** antenna had to GO.
step1. This is what the base of the antenna looks like after it's unscrewed from the fender:

step2. I stripped off the paint around the holes for welding.

I removed the inner fender, this is the crud I found:

The orange wire is the antenna lead, I wrapped that up in electrical tape and bound it with the other wires. I then cleaned up all that pine straw!

Here I welded up the holes where the screws were

Next, I use paper from underneath to make a template

Here is my template, with the 21 gauge sheetmetal I'll transfer it too.

The sheetmetal is cutout and is a pretty tight fit.

This is after I've welded the patch in, and ground down all the welds

Here's the primer:

Finally, the base and clearcoat. Commercial free radio is now mandatory. My wife and family don't understand why I did it. "How are you going to listen to the radio?" and "how are you going to sell it without an antenna?" I laff, cuz I'm never selling my stang.
