Alright Guys and Gals, It's that time again to replace the tires on the cobra. I have the stock cobra 17*8 rims on a 2001 cobra. right now I'm running the factory size of 245/45/R17. I would like to move up a tire size in the rear but i don't want the buldge of a 275 tire. I was looking at the BFG KDW2's on tire rack in a 255/40/R17. Does anyone run this size tire on there stang, or can you recommend a brand/ size that will fit and look well. I'm kind of partial to BFG's but open to suggestions:mustang:

I have the 17x8 mach 1 wheels on my car, I like the BFG's myself and that's what I will replace the original tires with when they are done. I think the ones I want are the KDW's as well. Have always run BFG's on my other car. Just my 2cents.

Another vote for BFG's - 255's will work on an 8" rim - I wouldn't go any wider though

cool thanks i was leaning towards that size myself. Saw a GT with 275/40/17 but he was running nitto 555, didn't look to bad but i really would like to get new rims first.

ALright I'm still shopping for tires and rims. I'm checking on AmericanMuscle.com now for the black fr500 rims 18*9 and 18*10. They have a special with sumitomo tires for cheaper than if i get the BFG's. Does anyone have any info on the sumitomo's good, bad, indifferance's to them.

P.S. what's the widest tire i can run with an 18*10" rim????:burn:

I used to run a 315/35 on my 10" rims when I had the 01 Cobra..

However, you will have to be careful with the IRS bolt running a wide tire in the rear.

I haven't heard bad things about the sumitomo tires. I'd checked the user reviews on tire rack and discount tire.

It all depends on the backspacing of the wheel and the tire. I would recommend surfing SVTperformance to see if anyone has used that tire combo before jumping into it.

I know they sell different IRS bolts now that don't stick out as much.

I checked out that site, some guys are running a 10.5" rim with 315 tires, some using a spacer to clear the bolt. I'll keep doing my homework on it though and search the site some more.

Ok so I'm pretty much settled on the Fr500 rims 18*10 with a 295/35/r18
my question lies in the front. I will be running hte 18*9 rim, should i go with the 265 or 275/35/18. FYI using BFG KDW2's on all four corners and installing H & R drop springs, with the Maximum Motorsports IRS bolts at the same time.

Go with the 275.. It'll fit the 9"rim much better then a 265.

I haven't ever tried the BFGs but I heard they were very good, a somewhat cheaper tire I think would be the Nitto555's, I run them and they hook real well in the dry, not so much in the rain though, I think I will try the BFG's in a couple hundred miles

Yesturday I installed Maximum Motorsports CC plates, H & R Lowering springs 1.5 all around, and new rims and tires. Everything fit perfectly.

Front 18*9 FR500/ 275/35/R18 BFG KDW 2's
Rear 18*10 FR500/ 295/35/R18 BFG KDW 2's

And now the Pix. My 67 Coupe is in the background (I should be working on it but i spend all my money on my cobra:confused: .
