:burn: Well, as you can read on my signature, my mods are somewhat basic, exhaust, intake and that's it other than dress up stuff. Is a Diablo Sport programmer worth me getting now? What would the benefits be?

No, all you have is a catback and a CAI.

Some people will say its worth it but I just couldnt agree, I would wait till you aquire some more mods then "get your moneys worth" from the tune.

Not worth the money until you've got all the bolt-on's done. ie, throttle body, underdrive pullies, x-pipe, long tubes, gears, intake spacer, etc...

The benefits if you do it now would be minor. Maybe better fuel mileage and a few hp. But if you do all the bolt-on's first, you'll see better results with a tune. I guess it's all about how many times you want to play with your tune.

Yeah, I still have my "wish list" at Summit. Once I finish off al the stuff I need to get, I'll get the programmer.

Do you have a manual or an automatic? If you have an auto, a tuner is probably worth it for an 05/06/07 'stang. If it's a manual, then it's probably not worth it yet. Sounds like your CAI didn't require a tune; many will require a tune, since the computer with factory tune cannot compensate.

Automatic.

OOoo...if it's an auto, you might really enjoy the tuner. It transformed my V6 auto. Do you ever get any throttle lag? Meaning, you're driving around a corner, step back on the gas, and nothing happens?? That was a big problem on the 05 autos, and I don't think they fixed it. It's because of the "drive by wire" technology...

Happened once or twice to me. Nailed it coming out of a corner, and for a plit second it did nothing, then I got pinned in my seat! Scared me pretty good. I said ****, just got this car and now it's broken!!! Herad of that b4 too. I have to get my pulleys and throttle body spaer too. Tune should work good.

Yes, you'll probably want to research the automatic tunes. I suggest looking at Alternative Auto and Bama Chips; can't go wrong with either. You'll find the car will be a whole new beast :) The factory tune puts in too much torque control (can you spin your tires from a dead stop?), babies the transmission too much, and generally makes it so smooth it's pathetic.

 I'll do some research. Thanks for the info.

Joe, eren't you looking at getting Nitrous, or a SC? If thats the case, I' have to agree with the above post about waiting, I know the Vortech comes with a tuner Diablo with a tune specifically for the SC. But if your still thinking of getting nitrous, either or, the tune will work better if you had these future mods already installed just, my .02

Not worth it at your current mod level auto or no auto. The only good thing about getting one now is it can grow with you, but you will have to keep getting the tune changed when you change something on the car. I would do like these other guys and wait until I had all the bolt ons I wanted. :)

does the tune also apply for 01 cobra's. I'm in a predicament right now. I put those long tubes on and i've burnt up 2 sets of o2 sensors(b4 the cats) in four days. I'm taking it to fastlane on tues to see if the air/fuel is wrong with it. Fastlane also said if it is off they will tune. my mods are long tubes, off road x-pipe, CIA, flowmasters.

I was fine w/ my longtubes and O2's. Im sure fastlane will get you all fixed up in a jiffy!

Disagree.

It was an incredibly dramatic change for my GT AUTO..... And- you have it forever....

Oh yeah.... what kinda difference on the Dyno was it? Any numbers? I'm on Mustang #9 and unless you have a very heavily modified car, the difference isn't going to be that dramitic as far as power. Tuners can help with shift points and tranny pressure, etc. etc. but you are not going to justify spending 2 to 500 dollars on a mostly stock car.

The differences a good tune makes on the '05&up automatic Mustangs has to be "felt" or experienced....a good CAI and tune is worth the money in driving performance. In other words, it's about much more than just HP with the new automatics. I'm sure by Mustang #9 you know LOADS about them...but have you owned an 05-07 automatic and tried a good tune? :) Things are a bit different with the new ones...there is no way in the world I would flash back to stock now--with or without the CAI, the differences a good tune makes is dramatic. So, it's worth the $400 to me!

If you are happy with it then good for you. The thread starter was asking for opinions, not arguments. I've been in a Mustang since I was 16,(34 now) so yes I know loads about them.
And no, I haven't owned an '05 up or any 6cyl. All mine have been Foxes and geared toward HP first and apperance second. In fact, the show Sat. was the first I have ever entered. I personally wouldn't buy a 6 anyway, but that's just me.
Bottem line is if he is going to stay at this mod level for a while then I say yes, go ahead and get the tuner and have fun. If he is planning on any kinda power adder in the near future, he is just throwing away money that he can utilize when everything else falls into place.

justify?

justify to who? $500 to enjoy driving my car more? Seems like a deal to me. Hell- some people spend more than that on decals- who's to say thats not 'justified'..... not me.... even though it wouldn't be my choice.

I just got my '06 GT a month or so ago and have spent maybe $900 on a C&L CAI, Flowmasters, SCT Xcal2 and a 93 OCt tune. "Feels" like the best $900 Ive spent in a long time..... thats more important than HP/$ to me....

If you are an all show and no go person, then that makes perfect sense to me. :) Start trying to go faster everytime you go back to the track and the way that you spend your $$ will be a whole lot more important to you then.
We basically have two different trains of thought here and that's all. I for one wouldn't waste money on a hand held for a couple of bolt ons just so I could spin the rears when I shifted into third. I basically buy my Stangs to go fast down the track, not be a stop light to stop light racer. If that's your thing then cool. I'm glad there are people out there enjoying their Pony cars reguardless of how they do it. We are all family in the big scheme of the car world.

Sounds like you are all GO and no SHOW. :D

Surprised you dont opt for a ricer. :D :D

Seriously though, I would bet money you've not driven a 05/06 AUTO Mustang before and after a tune....

No rice for me... actually I did own a '98 Nissan Pathfinder and an '04 STI. Those were my ex's rides so I drove them a lot. STI isn't to shabby in the power dept. for a rice rocket.

Here is a post from the guy that had the car before I got it. Not a trailer queen show car but pretty nice none the less.

I almost bought an '06 back when they were doing the 0%, but I would have had to trade in the F-250 and when it came down to it I couldn't part with my truck.

So is that a "no" on ever having driven a new AUTO?
