As a newer owner, recently bitten by the bug- I've been trying to do a lot of research on modifying my new baby ('o6 GT Vert, auto)....

Well- I'm finding a lot of info- but I'm all over the place! I think if I had a $10K budget- it would be easy- but doing it in moderation is a lot harder!

So, I guess what Im looking for is a "Mod for Dummies" site or FAQ or something. Or, if others have put together a PLAN for their work- Id love to see it! Im trying to create a prioritized list. Perhaps starting with the "bolt-on" options- netting the best bang for buck.

What are your opinions on the "no-brainer" performance mods (if such things exist)?

For instance, I seem to see a general agreement on K&N filters as a cheap and easy upgrade.... but then again- their CAI kit looks solid too?

Ditto for things like re-programming the chip, slapping on Flowmasters, etc.

Has anyone found or created a comprehensive shopping list?

(the only thing I've changed so far in the license plate holder) :-)

I don't know if you go to any other forums, but there are quite a few out there with a lot of this type of info.

I have only added stripes and clear bra ( dealer added plate frame ), not a whole lot of performance there ......... I need to get some of those stickers like the ricers:D .... 5-10 HP apiece

lowepg, I had several mods done to my 05' the one thing I did learn was to decide what I wanted, for instance, the first set of mods I did, was exhaust, CAI, Pullies, and an SCT Tune, I got pretty good numbers, but no more then two weeks later I decided on getting a supercharger.

With the SC, I no longer needed the SCT tune, the pullie, or the CAI, so I ended up wasting quite a few dollars for the install and those parts I no longer needed. Basically I guess just know what furure plans you want with mods and how they will effect your car rather then ended up wasting money.

Good luck

Damnit- please dont inject fiscal responsibility into my decision-making- it'll all go to hell! :bash:

With $4k-$5K investment for a SC..... I'm thinking thats a long way off for me right now.... plus it sounds like as soon as you drop in the SC- you will necessarily want to bump up the suspension, exhaust, tires, etc....

So many choices!

Unfortunately, it is only FWHP, not RWHP

And that's the big picture, trust me I know. New Tires, New Suspension, New Clutch, and whatever else I'm forgetting I had done. I thought oh 4000 grand for a SC great, and didnt think about all the other expenses, along with the upgrade in gas, from 89 to 93, but was it worth it? Oh hell ya!!!

gears (4.10's for you) and exhaust are always good starting mods for a Mustang. The late model cars responsd well to cold air kits with a tune, so I would wrap the cold air and gears into one tune.

Thanks- I broke the new GT's Stock status this week with a C&L CAI and Xcal2 tune from Brenspeed. Wanted to buy from BAMA- but I had a helluva time getting ahold of the guy- only then to find out it cold be a couple weeks (or more) till he had the kits in stock).

Now to figure out which preset tune.... leaning towards 93Oct perf. setup... I will spring for a custom dyno tune once Ive added a few more items....

Exhaust, gears and pulleys seem to be the next step.... SC is a long way off (maybe after the factory warranty runs out) :D

I have heard nothing but good stuff on Brenspeed also.

Yes- Brenspeed and BAMA both had nearly universal positive feedback from all my research....

The top CAI kits all seemed fairly even too.... so not too difficuly a decision.

Now, exhaust on the other hand...... whoa- I think Im in for another serious research session..... and with a LOT more subjective feedback to deal with too since a lot of it (to me at least) seems aesthetics rather than actual performance (at least with my non-SC'd GT).
