Mustang, Shelby & SVT Poke Run * Saturday July 10, 2010
From Raleigh, NC to Wilmington, NC
Any Mustang, Shelby or SVT vehicles are invited to participate.
I’ve checked each clubs calendar and forums; I could not find any events scheduled for this day.
Details:
The goal is to raise as much money for a donation to The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (so the proceeds will help citizens within all of our communities).
www.foodbankcenc.org (http://www.foodbankcenc.org)
Rules:
1. Buy in $20 per sheet. (see attached pdf for more details).
2. Cards will be drawn from a bag and your sheet will be stamped for the appropriate cards.
a.Three cards at the rest area
b.Two cards at the USS North Carolina
(You may purchase a sixth card for an additional $5)
3. If playing MORE than one hand, the participant must present the appropriate Poker Hand Tally Sheet to be marked BEFORE each card is drawn.
4. In case of a tie, there will be a draw for High Card to determine the winner.
5. All decisions of the judges (ME) are FINAL!
Each Club must provide a volunteer to help me with ‘dealing’ the cards, each volunteer will deal for another club to keep things ‘fair’ (HCMC will provide someone for the non- affiliated group).
Payout:
Each Club will have one winner (non-affiliated will be their own “group”); there will be one ‘overall winner’. Each club must purchase a minimum of 5 sheets to participate in the club prize, if less than 5 sheets are purchased your club members will be folded into the non-affiliated group.
Club winner - $40
Overall winner - $160
ALL monies collected over and above the maximum payout will be donated to the Food Bank.
Disclaimer:
Their must be a minimum of 20 sheets sold or the Poker Run part of the event will be canceled; this will then just become a cruise to the Battleship.

This is just for bragging rights to see which local Mustang Club shows up big and rolls in with the most members! Will it be Heart of Carolina? Mustang of Burlington?? Twisted Stallions??? Sandhills???? Or Stangs-R-Us????? Or will it be non-club members?
Additional Info:
If you have them, please bring two-way radios (if you don’t, I highly suggest you get a set). When were caravanning as a group, please have your headlights on at all times.

It's good to see at least a couple of HCMC members are interested. I was starting to worry that I was wasting my time putting this together. When selecting the date I made sure there wasn't a local car show or cruise-in so there wouldn't be a conflict. Back in the day, this club would easily get 20-30 cars out for an event like this, I guess people are just too busy now?
Stangs-R-Us & MOB have shown some interest. SMC has taken up the challenge, they are shooting for 40 cars and trying to 'showing up' the other local clubs; thread on the SMC forums (http://forums.sandhillsmustangs.com/showthread.php?t=4651). Twisted Stallions are out, they already have a commitment for that day that I missed on their calendar.
There should be a few buddies from Team Shelby joining also.

Yea I think it would be great. I'm going to put it up on the Bullitt forums as well, and I'm trying to get my friend with the procharged Shelby GT to ride out.

Well Kim and I just got back from the beach today, based on that trip the details for this event have changed! I have no idea what I was thinking, doing a beach cruise right in the middle of summer!!
The beach house we rented was on North Topsail, we took a break from the beach on Wednesday and headed to the NC Aquarium at Fort Fischer with the grandkids. The traffic getting on to Carolina & Kure Beach was horrendous in the middle of the week, I can't imagine how bad it will be on a Saturday morning with a bunch of Mustangs.
So the new plan will be to just do a Poker Run to the USS North Carolina and lunch at the Smithfields BBQ & Chicken in Warsaw.
Please see the first post in this thread for new details.
(Can one of the admins change the title of this event to; Mustang, Shelby & SVT Poker Run with the same date)

First off, NO rain except for a small sprinkle on the way back....
Second, we raised $400 for the Food Bank.
Lastly, I would like to thank those HCMC members that showed up;
Warren & Val
Eric & Kristina
David E.
And former club members;
Ariel & Monica
Russ H.
I hope y'all had as much fun as I did, to bad that SMC kicked HCMC's butt and showed up with close to 20 cars. Hell, the SENCMC out of Wilmington had more cars then HCMC, including a '69 Mach1.....
One Bullitt owner from the IMBOC drove all the way down from OH and may come back in the fall for the show.

Carl I had a blast today! Was great seeing everyone. The SMC did kick our butts on the number of cars from one club and its sad the club from Wilmington had more cars than us. Thanks again Carl for setting this event up for everyone to enjoy. Can't wait to have another one.

Seeing the pics on Facebook makes me wish I didn't have a 3500lbs paperweight. Too bad Ash has a work weekend or we would've come joined the fun in her car.
Carl, thank you for arranging -- and keeping some life in the events.

Carl, Val and I had a great time too. We stayed and enjoyed touring the North Carolina, so as we were later in leaving we ran into more showers than apparently you did. We still stopped at Smithfield's so as not to feel left out.
We agree that it is unfortunate that more HCMC members did not participate for a better showing and for such a worthy cause. So be it. They just don't know what they missed. At the same time it was great to spend time with the other clubs.
Val will have some pics to post shortly, once she wades through the 50+ that she took.
Again, thanks for organizing such a great and worthy event.

Warren, sorry to hear about the wet stuff... I ran though a second shower less than a mile from our house, I just drove a little faster to dry it off... :burnout:
Looking forward to seeing Val's pictures, I understand she is a very good photographer.
I'm glad to hear the both of you enjoyed yourselves.

Carl, you did an excellent job of organizing this little get together.
I thought it was outstanding that the South Eastern Mustang Club drove 2 hrs from Wilmington to meet us @ the Rest Area between Clayton and Benson, then drove another 2 hrs back.

Great Poker Run and my hats off for the HCMC for putting this on and the overall response in providing the money to the Food Bank of NC. SENCMC had 5 cars in the mix but thought it went great as no incidents were reported. Great job guys.:woot:

Carl, We had a great time yesterday! Although the cards didn't go our way we thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't think I've ever seen that many Shelby's together in one place! It was a great chance to get the Bullitt's together!
You were also right about going to Fort Fisher, traffic was pretty bad going down, but it was horrible going to dinner that night. The ride back was prety smooth with no traffic. I still can't imagine that single lane road with 30 mustangs!

Eric, Glad somebody else enjoyed the traffic here. For such a small county we have a large accident rate. Did you go straight thru Carolina Beach or take Dow Rd. The traffic pattern that goes thru Carolina Beach is new this year. Used to be 2 lanes. I avoid it.
Carl, Thanks for the great time yesterday. Your Poker Run was discussed at our club meeting today.

There were good things said about HCMC and the Poker Run. I am VP of SENCMC and am also extending and invitation to our show in October in Wilmington. The date of the show is October 16, 2010. Just check out our website for more information and to download a flyer. Website is http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/sencmc/ (http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/sencmc/). We went straight down Carolina Beach Road, and by the 6th name change we were where we were going! lol I can't wait to go down there when I can stay for longer, and drive a car I won't be so worried about.

I just got back from the Food Bank, the $400 raised will cover 1700 meals in our community! The FBCENC is one of the most efficient charities within our state delivering 97 cents of every dollar back to the people its suppose to help.

I would like to arrange a club outing to volunteer on a Saturday over the winter months to work at the warehouse. We did this as a club several years ago, is anyone else interested?
