Okay, I'll be leading the cruise to Fayetteville for the drag day. Who's in?
I will not be running my car, just going to hang out for the day.

Come out to join us if you are running or not. It will be a lot of fun.

We will meet up at exit 312 off of I40 (40/42) at the Burger King/Exxon at
10:30 and depart to the track at 11.

A few of my friends are coming down from NY March 19th-20th for the North vs South grudge race. They have some really fast Mustangs. I might be able to make it since I live @10 minutes from the track but I will more then likely be Stangless still.

Jerry and Emiko
Chris, Erin, and Violet
Dean
Victor
Joe

TC off, go around the water box, spin the tires once to clean them, launch at idle to 1500rpm first to practice how to slip the clutch in order to get the good weight transfer to the back. If you rev it and just let go of the clutch, all you'll get is burnt tires and a shocked powertrain.

Tuesday I think I'll be attempting to repaint her chin spoiler -- if all goes well.

Yep, once you get that down, you can try launching at higher RPMs.

And yes, take everything out of the car that you don't need. 100lbs is 0.1 sec.

I heard from Dean Lazzaro today and he is going to join us for the drag day and is bringing one of his drag cars. He is also going to treat everyone to Subway for lunch. So let me know how many are riding in each car so we can get an accurate head count for lunch. Thanks Dino!

Or you can just get to about 5500 rpm and dump, time slip is way over rated :jester:

Going to try and make it. Never have put this pony on the strip so this would be a newbie... I suspect this would be a lot different than the old school days where I didn't have to worry too much about traction between gears. So Ras... sounds like you are the old pro here. If I go through my gears fast, I will burn 2nd for a big part of it and possibly 3rd for a short burst depending on conditions. Do you sacrifice the shift slightly to drop the rpm to prevent breaking traction or do you just go for it?

Rasmus
03-01-2010, 09:05 PM
Victor, glad you've decided to take it to the track!

With a blower and street tires, launch at low-low RPM's. The track is (usually) well prepped with VHT, so you shouldn't have any problems keeping it floored through 2nd and 3rd shifting around 5800-6000rpm

No, you don't have to pass tech here. You just sign a waiver stating the track ain't liable, and you're good to go.

congrats, just so I can not feel like a total loser today, researched a little an here is what i found from experienced test drivers, so for a guy ain't tracked in 35 years, I'm happy today.

The six-speed manual, 3.45:1 geared 426 hp Camaro SS was the quickest car of the group by a wide margin, stomping 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and running through the 1/4-mile in 13.0 seconds at 111 mph.
The Mustang GT weighs 3500 pounds. That's about 400 pounds less than either the Camaro SS or Challenger R/T. So the relatively modest horsepower meant our Mustang could still hustle to 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds and run through the 1/4-mile in 13.9 seconds at 102 mph. (me 14.3 103)
The 420 hp SRT8 manual we tested at the same time in Detroit hit 60 mph in 5.0-seconds flat and ran through the 1/4-mile in 13.3 at 107 mph.

Rasmus
03-07-2010, 07:36 PM
No you did good, Jerry. I know some other people here with more mods on the same 3V as yours, and they didn't crack 13's on the first trip. Let's do another trip when I get my car back, and I'll guarantee you you'll break into the 13's easily.

All it takes is seat time, and getting to know your car.
