My wife and I went with a couple from church last night to see Watchmen. First off, let me discuss the plot. It was the most complicated, confusing, makes no sense, boring plot I have ever seen in 25 years. Second is the content. Just a few of the segments include a young girl who was molested, tortured, raped, and fed to two dogs, a pregnant woman shot dead, deragatory language, graphic torture, and other very sexually explicit scenes. As for the ending, I could not tell you because we all left before we found out, we didn't care. The last part we saw was nothing short of a pornographic movie. The most graphic sexual junk I have ever seen in a rated R movie. This movie was not only a waste of valuable time, but the biggest waste of $19.00 we have ever spent.

Thanks for the review Joe. We were going to see it last night(date night) but dinner ran over so we missed it. I wanted to see Push, but it was not playing at North Hills and the next Watchmen started at 10 which was too late. Ended up sitting at a table outside just chatting with some friends until late, but great night for it.

without suggesting that the movie is better than you thought (it's not), i could have told you all that from reading the original graphic novels it's based on. the Watchmen was never meant to be fun, happy, or uplifting. that's why it won so many awards for originality - no other American comic had ever been so dark and depressing before.

I read the graphic novel back in the late 80's, I was a teenager back then. The book was the hardest hitting thing I had read up to that point, and it WAS CONSIDERED A COMIC! This movie is a 95% adaption of that comic. Me and Wayne saw it Friday, he never read the comic like I did, so he had a totally different view of it. It is not your average comic book movie, BEWARE!

O, and the opening credits were the most awesome part of the movie.

Like Joe said, it's Rated R, so don't go expecting sunshine and rainbows. I left feeling meh, because in all honesty the movie, like alot of movies that are based on novels don't need to be made. Hollywood is creatively bankrupt, and figures they can cash in on these comic movies with built-in fan bases. And then folks like Joe get sucked in because he thought he was going to see x-men, then gets slapped with extreme sex and violence. That's the way they marketed the film though, like it was just another comic book movie.

Nobody goes into a rated R movie and expects sunshine and rainbows. Myself included. However, I have seen R rated movies with some sexual content and then it goes on with another point in the plot. This movie aside from the sex, was terrible for the reasons I mentioned before IMO. If I would have known about the novel, I wouldn't have gone. Also, I was expecting a plot like X-men like Brian said. I've seen all of them and love them. Long story short, it just wasn't for us.

I didn't like it very much either. I'm not offended by the sex or the violence, I was expecting plenty of both. I just thought it was too over the top. And the plot didn't make much sense either. I was thinking while I was watching it, I should have seen Taken. And it may be that I am just too old, (I am), but it was WAY too loud.

I am reading the book now. From what I hear it is a pretty direct adaptation of the book. I like it so far and think it is cool and different. From what I am reading online most people who have read it enjoy the movie and those who haven't don't like it as much. I plan on seeing it once I am done with the book this week.

I liked Taken, but my wife said if you have a daughter you will not like it. It is a very true movie that Americans would prefer didn't exist. But it does and opens closed eyes. Very action packed though and Liam is a bad a$$.

So I just saw Watchmen last night and I must say that I loved it. It goes with the book nearly 100%. That being said, if you didn't know what to expect going into it then I could see why you could dislike it. I think that the previews for this movie had everyone fooled...including me. Before I even knew of the Graphic Novel I thought that the movie was just going to be a rip off of Batman or other super hero movies...but that is about as far from the truth as possible. It is not a super hero movie. If you know what to expect going into this movie you will enjoy it...but it is not for the casual movie goer and I think it is better that way. There is no way this would have been a good movie if it was changed from the source material in any way. It is an "R" rated movie and thats what you are going to get if you do decide to go and see it. But I would recommend it if you have read the Novel or plan on reading the novel!

+1

I remember being a bit confused after having read the comic. At first you sit around thinking "what the..??", but then you realize you have to change your expectations, and with that your perspective. There are no superheroes, there is no right and wrong, and - for some - no compromise.

Oddly enough, I too thought someone had turned the volume up to 11. Dang, it was loud.
