okay guys so me and the wife are driving around cary today, and i turn on the A/C and it smells like dead fish. So I think i need to have a/c checked a little later on i smell antifreeze and then see the dreaded defroster vent fog. get down on my knees and pray to the car gods and while Im down there i see the coolant leaking into the driver floorboard. Heatercore is bad. so I went to advance and picked up a bypass kit to get me through the summer. I will get around to changing the heatercore out sometime when it starts to cool down in the fall. (I have read it is NOT going to be fun.) but my question is will my a/c still work properly? and will i need to change my thermostat to a differnt temp? thanks for any advise guys..

I don't see why the AC can't still work. You may get the coolant smell from any coolant that collected in the ductwork.
Unless the car is modified, I would just stick with a stock 195 deg thermostat.

You should have no problems with the AC. As for the thermostat, I am a believer in cooler is better. I run the coolest that I can find for every car that I drive, and have never had any troubles with warning lights. I would change the one in the cobra if I could find the darn thing:confused: . I am a old tried and true 5.0 guy, and looking under the hood of the cobra is unfamiliar territory. I need an intro course on the 4.6 DOHC:) .

I believe (correct me if i am wrong) the thermostat is hanging on the bottom of the engine bay in a silver casing with 4 hoses running from the bottom of theradiator, to the block, back to overflow resevoir, also to the crossver on top of the motor. This is on the 2001 Cobra not sure if it applies to the other years.

Air conditioning will work just fine with the heater core bypassed or removed.

A 192º thermostat is best.
