I was surfing around the net for car stuff (as usual on my day off) and I saw an add for Royal Purple oil. It advertised on their site several clips from Horse Power TV, Trucks, Top Dead Center, and other shows about it's HP adding abilities. All the shows found an average HP gain of 9 rwhp! That to me is impressive. I currently run Castrol Syntec and never used anything different. Has anyone used Royal Purple, or noticed any real feel of an HP gain? How much is it a quart, my Syntec is about $5.50.

Found a place in Fuquay "Steve Ashworth Performance" that sells it for $6.40 per quart.

Just to see if the stuff really works....who had their Mustang just dynoed, and hasn't made any modifications since? Put in the Purple stuff and get it dynoed at the next club sponsered dyno, I'd be intersedted in seeing if it really works. I'm always suspicious of stuff like this, how much is Hype and how much is for real? A lot of times the manufacturer claims are set up in conditions that show a maximum gain, but you may not see thoese actual numbers in your REAL LIFE type driving. I'm not saying it's not true, I just like to look for more info on a product like this before I spend much $$$ on it. I have not heard of anyone else using it, have you looked on Horsepower Junkies or SVT Performance? See if they have any info or comments.

The redline products have the same clain. I used that in my car but I did it more for the long lasting qualities since I'd didn't drive it that much and didn't change the oil too often. It never gave me a problem but I have no idea about an HP gain. I've seen the HP shows where they changed out ALL, let me say it again ALL, the fluilds and put the RP in, and got those numbers without changing anything else. I bleieve they did a mustang once and it got somewhere around 6rwhp

I don't believe in those products. Every car I've owned that I experimented with synthetic lubes developed one thing or another over time. I used to run the 0w30 Mobil one when it first came out (about a decade ago I think) in my first Notch and after about 10k miles (45k total on the car) I noticed the valvetrain had gotten louder. The car was not unusually beaten on. After switching back to dino oil the noise had mostly dimished.
I had an STI for a short time and tried Royal Purple gear oil in the trans. Subarus synchros grab a bit slow and I wanted quicker shifting. It definately helped the synchros but after about 8k on the trans with the Purple it developed louder then usual bearing noise. A switch back to 75-90 GL5 Penzoil eliminated the bearing noise and subsequently the synchros went back to being a bit slow again.
In my oppinion, those lubes are probably great for performance and the track but I'm not sold on the longetivity of the product. I take care of my vehicles in order to obtain high milage before needing repair and I don't think you will get that out of them.

it is a good oil, but you will not get 9rwhp from switching to it.
what type of oil do you run?

No, I just use that weight because Ford recomnmends it. I have mods, listed under member rides "Joe Natale" but no blower yet. :(

I use to run 5w 20 when i was bolt ons, but now w/ the blower (extra heat) i run german castrol 0w-30 it is thicker for extra protection. I know that the mobile 1 and the royal purple 5w-20 is a relatively "thin" oil

Yeah, I'm not sure about the Castol Syntec I run as far as the "thinness" but I like it. :)

it is actually a lil thicker.
so people run 30 during the summer, and then 20 during the winter.

That's funny, it used to be 40 during summer and 30 during winter.
I personally think using the right viscosity is way more important then synthetic versus organic.
